Where in GZ both my wife & I can get birthing classes, workshops, baby stuffs etc?
We are busy thus going back Singapore is out of question, plus the fact of my wife's belly is getting bigger by the day!

alvineki, maybe you could get down to HK and do a private Annerley midwives course at a time that suits you? Not sure what else regards birthing classes in GZ - LLL would have been a good bet.
Regards baby stuff, Jusco etc all have big baby departments with reasonable stuff. Zhongshan ba lu baby market, as Ruth said, has everything you could need including some western brand stuff, lots of toys, clothing, equipment etc. Your child won't go short of anything in Guangzhou!!
also, ikea has great reasonably priced cots, changing tables, wardrobes etc and you know they've been safety tested there. They're also great for big toy boxes etc and I got a nursing type chair for RMB 249 which has been great. Don't forget lots of cushions too!!

Time constraints prevented us from attending GZ-LLL as my wife is a lecturer in an international school, thus not flexible in her schedule on weekdays.
Been to Zhongshan Ba Lu but it seems they cater more for babies & kids, not toddlers. Maybe anyone can direct me to the more reputable shops there?? I'm looking for bottle sterilizer/warmers, cloth diapers etc. No chinese brands please! Don't think they last...
Ruth - what about a casual meet-up in clifford if your time permits? Hope to 'download' your vast GZ experience before you go! Maybe spicegal can come along!

Alvineki, you can get the Avent sterilisers in Zhong Shan Ba lu and all the avent bottles, also lots of other brands like pigeon, zuk, tommee tippee etc - think there's a v big shop if you go upstairs, across the footbridge in the middle, turn right immediately and go all the way to the end there then there's a shop that has lots of that branded stuff. Not sure about warmers... I use a bowl of hot water!
Cloth daipers, hmm... I found terry squares in Kids world, also on Zhong shan ba lu (closer to Chen jia shi metro but on same side), not great quality but they work OK, esp for a newborn. They've lasted me 5 months so far so not bad for 6 for 20RMB! Bambino mio's are available in HK and you can get tots bots from doubibou as noted above. Made my own fleece liners from an ikea fleece banket.
Do you have a toddler already and a baby on the way? Can't really help on toddler stuff in GZ, sorry.

Hi simplythebest, it's not actually a "nursing chair" but a chair with low arms which rocks a bit and works well for me. Not sure the name but the catalogue has chairs called "Poang" which are similar but more expensive - they have matching footstools though.
Alvineki, I was at Zhong Shan ba lu yesterday - the shop with the avent stuff is where I said but one row over - their stuff is similar to HK prices - but that's much cheaper than Avent stuff in teemall!
Good luck with the arrival of Chloe!

One more thing, do you know of any places in GZ that sell bassinets? We're looking for one with a stand for the newborn until the crib is used.

Ladies, not really sure about basinet as we just put our bubs straight in the cot - also from ikea - she looked so tiny but she sleeps great in it. They do have some basinet type things at the baby market but not that great looking tbh.

Simplythebest, got your p.message, thx! My hotmail is acting up but will reply via email later! Ladies, thanks for your suggestions. I think the Ikea cot/crib is best for safety reasons, I looked at the tags & have been approved by several countries' safety standards. A bit wary of things here on the mainland re:safety, no quality control. Will most likely get the bassinet/moses basket in HK. Re: birthing classes, I have heard that Annerly Midwives is a very good service and I like that they can provide private classes if you can't make it to a scheduled group one. Ruth, I have your book. :) I have an open mind but will see what happens when bubs comes along...remember, I'm a first-timer. I really wanted the responses to be about where to buy baby products in GZ.
