Back-up Bottles

I'm planning to breastfeed when my baby is born in August, but would like to have a couple of bottles and some formula on hand in case it doesn't work out. Any recommendations for bottles / teats / formula suitable for a newborn? Thanks!

Avent bottles are great, designed to reduce colic. You can just change teats as your baby grows. Have you thought about expressing if BF doesn't work? Avent have some great pumps also.

Thanks, Perthites. Yes, I am going to do everything I can to give my baby breast milk. I just want to be prepared incase it's just not possible.

What type of teats do newborns use?

IMHO, nothing work better than MEDELA for breatpump. Worth investing. Even if you bf succesfully, still good to pump it out as to introduce baby to bottle feed to smoother out the transition from breast to bottle. That way DAD can help baby for night feed too. say,...over the weekend...right???

mayafox the Avent teats are clearly marked newborn etc they have a little picture in the top righthand corner witht he age and how many holes are on the teat. I actually had a latching problem so i have been express BF since 6weeks. I use the Avent double electric pump which is great and takes me 10-15mins to pump 200mls. I aslo have there single electric pump which comes with a battery pack aswell. I actually started giving my bubs a bottle once a night form two weeks as jamiekoh says it helps bubs get use to the bottle and gives you a break and someone else a chance!

i use avent bottles and teat. i advise that you check the teat holes before putting it in baby's mouth. because the newborn and 1month ones are really tiny...my poor baby sucked and sucked for what seemed like forever and i realised it was because nothing was coming out!

Having formula milk: i breastfed only for a week but please go longer if you can and pump is directly latching is not working. initial bf is tough and if you have tin of formula at home, it'll be easy to cave in and use that when the going gets tough, be tough about it, don't be like me! unless after sometime you feel that you'll be happier feeding formula, then it's your call.

Thanks everyone... This forum is the best.

I've heard lots of people mention Dr. Browns bottles -- have you guys tried these? Are they any good?
