Is HK friendlier than Singapore?

ORIGINAL POST

Just looked at the Practical page for Singapore. Nobody ever answers anything there. Well, hardly ever.... the thirteenth-newest reply for Singapore is 45 DAYS old, compared with a few HOURS old in HK. And get this: that 45 day old reply is to a question an astonishing 977 days old. Thank heavens the poster wasn't asking where to buy his Thanksgiving/Christmas turkey!

Is this because people are friendlier in HK? Or are they just less hard-working than expats in Sing, so they have more time for this sort of thing?

Just curious.

Totally disagree with fasan. Singapore is beginners asia. We were in HK 3 years ago. We have now been in Singapore 6 months and are moving on friday to HK and can't wait. With the exception of some very good friends it is the most unfriendly place i have ever lived. Can't wait to get to HK. Most people seem to be so busy with their own lives here they can't be bothered to help anyone else out.

There is actually a far more popular expat website in Singapore that is used by expats, you'll see that questions are answered within minutes

Expat222,

At first I thought your answer was quite brilliant. But on reflection, it has a few flaws.

For example, let's look at the "Domstic Helpers" channel. Here, substantially the same issues should arise in both cities - after all, the issues of Chinese language/ city size/ hinterland / self re-invention / etc are not relevant to employing a DH.

The HK forum's DH channel is in use every minute of the day (and brimming with questions of such astonishing naivity that one is inclined to side more with fasan's view than with your notion that HK is bursting with high-achieving alpha-managers). Yet the Singapore forum does not even HAVE a DH channel!

So... I'm still quite convinced that your reasons hold water.

Singas has it right. There is a very popular website in Singapore www.expatsingapore.com (am I allowed to post that here?).

Not sure that:

a) it is more friendly than this one....while it has lots of helpful replies, it certainly contains more unfriendly characters, or

b) it is a true reflection of the friendliness of Singapore expats

Am about to get a chance to experience friendliness of Hong Kong vs Singapore for real - hopefully it will at least be the same :-)
