Help! Fixing my Ipod without paying a fortune?

ORIGINAL POST

I dropped my Ipod; still have the screen display but other then that not working.

Went to their official lab, without even looking at it the person said it would cost 1800HKD.

I do want to fix it but not at the cost of a new one.

Does anyone know if there are any other places that can fix a “wounded” Ipod in reasonable cost and that are reliable? Or should I say goodbye?

In Hong Kong Apple does not offer a "fix" service for iPods. The $1800 is for a replacement.

If you find a jack-the-lad to try to fix it and it ends up in pieces, Apple may not honour the replacement offer.

Did you try to re-boot it by pressing the Menu plus, either Play/pause or select.

It always worked for me.

Or do you have home contents insurance with an "all risks" section?

There is an ipod service centre in the RBS (Royal Bank of Scotland) building which is next to time square in causeway bay. You use the same foyer but different lifts to access. Not sure if this is where you have already been. It is not well signed so ask the information people down the bottom - sorry I don't have the floor/number.

Try to connect the ipod to the comp. and reset the ipod. It worked for me when my ipod looked dead. It finally went fully dead and I got a replacement as it was still in warranty.

It takes the songs stored, but I assume you have them backed up on a comp?
