Help! Fixing my Ipod without paying a fortune?

I dropped my Ipod; still have the screen display but other then that not working.

Went to their official lab, without even looking at it the person said it would cost 1800HKD.

I do want to fix it but not at the cost of a new one.

Does anyone know if there are any other places that can fix a “wounded” Ipod in reasonable cost and that are reliable? Or should I say goodbye?

I was able to repair several palm pilot screens following instrucions that I found on the internet. If you do a bit of internet searching you might find instructions on how to do it.
