Please HELP !!!
I live on the top floor.
Just noticed a water mark spreading on the ceiling of my storage room, must be caused by the recent heavy rain.
Now it is spreading towards the joint of the living room. The paint started to come off a bit too, or "bubbling".
Before my most "friedndly" landlord finally can pay a visit to the site, what can I do with the minimum costs, by putting something on the rooftop to slow down the water mark spreading. Polystyrene/Styrofoam sheets from the stationery shop - can it help ? If I place them on top on the rooftop floor ?
Any practical suggsetions are welcome !
THANKS.

thanks fasan.
that would be my landlord's job.
the problem is she need to take inspection which i have no idea when she will come to the site (from my experience, whenever there is something to fix, it always take rather long time to come inspect & then decide what to do, very annoying).
while now is the rainy season, so i am worry & hope to do something without causing me much , as a temporary measure.

thanks for your suggestion, Kanda 1.
She is the one collecting the rent for her brother whom is the actual owner of the flat & lives aboard too. Hence if any problem in the flat must be "viewed" by her & let her made the report to her brother. If I do anything on my own & charge her back , she will be found me responsible. I had a drama with her with fixing the flushing water in the bathroom. Unfortunately , I cannot break the lease now as well.

I am not looking for any temporary meaasure to fix it, just to avoid it get worse before the landlord people come over to visit, which I have no clue how soon they can come & I am living in the top floor, right underneath the rooftop.

fasan,
waterproofing - should be the job done by my landlord.
hence i was asking anything thing i can "slow-down" the spread prior to the final date when the landlord can come to inspect, these people always take their time.
plastic sheet - i guess this is why Heathen suggested it.

by the way, fasan, i missed your earlier post, so you are expert on this subject for doing this for 20 years.
so the transparent waterproof liquid is good solution , as temporary measure.
there is direct strong sunlight to the rooftop, how long will that liquid stand , in your opinion.
i am looking at no less than 500 sq. feet area.
does it take a long time to be ready, as i need to find a good day to do it on the rooftop. do not want to apply it without a clue. thanks !!!

fasan,
thanks for your kind advice, really appreciated.
i do not think there is any large cracks up there, by looking at the kind of spreading on the ceiling underneath the rooftop.
i am not too bright on this subject, pls enlighten me :
- in my case i can brush a coating of the transparent waterproof on the rooftop. so this work for my type of rooftop -
the rooftop is covered by marble-like floor tile (i think like those you see in wanchai renovation supplies shop, each like 30x30cm , guess no less than 1cm thick.
- after a couple of months, what happened to that coating : does it meam it will be dissolve into the layer between the rooftop & my ceiling
OR
it will disappear after exposed to the sun after a couple of month.
THANKS !

fasan,
thanks for your quick reply.
hard to professionally judge the crack size, thanks for the reminder though.
so i can let the liquid coating just dried up over times. hope it will achieve my purpose -- slow down the spread from now till my landlord come inspect.
hope by the time my landlord arrive, they will not noticed what i have done in rooftop, if the coating is not crack yet as being transparent. as they might always accused me, not a reasonable bunch at times.

a tiny little flat, as you can see the rooftop is not over 500 sq. feet, that is the size of the flat underneath.
the problem is my annoying landlord which worth very little (respect), wish i knew before i sign the lease. had problem before to claim for expenses i pay for them before.

yes , fasan.
if it is for my landlord to pay , then yes.
i am just merely want to slow down the "spreading" , since they already take long time to inspect whatever maintenance report they need to do.
unfortunately , when i move in , it is not a flat with brand new fresh renovation, never thought would have this situation as well. sighhhhhh

thanks , briandwest.
good to share your experience.
there is never standing water on the rooftop.
i already lived in there for 3 years so far (just renew the contract earlier this year). drainage is working fine too, as even the doorman will go up there to ensure nothing is blocking up there too whenever there is heavy rain.
as soon as the sun comes out after the rain, it just dry up.

briandwest , thanks.
good info, that is something for my landlord to take care & study.
my only concern is what i can do from now until the time when my landlord finally come to the do site inspection. WHEN the landlord arrives, i still do not know.
why i have to concern is i do not want the situation get worse, just as a good gesture while i am living right underneath.
the temporary measure being "transparent" is also consider as i do not want to get caught, as they will always say i have done something without their agreement, sorry, landlord is not a reasonable person to deal with.
THANKS FOR THE INPUT FROM EVERYONE.

hi, i'm also looking for this waterproof liquid, went to lockart road, tried two hardware stores, no they didn't sell it, then tried a tile shop, they told me to try a paint store, went to a paint shop and they said they only sell paint.
Argh waste of a lunchtime :(
If you find a shop selling this stuff please let me know which address - thanks !

i passed mine & got mine from a local shop but not in wanchai.
hi silver lining.
there are a couple of shops near to the direction on admiralty, side streets along queen's road east where u will find all these furniture shops, and also near the wanchai market area. where you will see some broom , paint outside, usually that is the type of shop. in the local area , i reckon.
