is shanghai safe for women

I've been living in Shanghai for nearly 3 years now and I've found it relatively safe. Obviously, I'm sure there are areas you should avoid if you're on your own at night as in other countries but safety generally isn't a problem here.

I have lived here for two years and I have no fear walking the streets at night, there is always someone about!!

There are definitely some dodgy places but I have only had one horrendous experience with regards to my personal safety while I have been here.

If you are on your own like me I also have no problem walking into some bars on my own, people will talk to you, and are usually happy to pass on the helpful info to newcomers. I would recommend some restaurants but there are just way too many to name, we can start by categories but I ain't gettin any younger so if there is something specific you are looking for then that would be good.

I have been very happy here, I have lived in four other cities in China and Shanghai rules my friend, so I hope you enjoy it as much too...

onefreespirit I can think of a few places off the top of my head which you might like. I love the view and atmosphere at Face bar on Ruijin Lu, it is set in an old manor house and you can quite forget where you are. Upstairs here is what I think is one of the best Thai restaurants too.

Cotton's is also great for unwinding after a hard day, beautiful garden and good bar food.

Both of these places are happily techno free, another reason why I like them!!

For a night out with rock music the band at Malone's is good, also the British Bulldog and the Big Bamboo. For something a little wilder the music at Plan B is great.

Hope this helps
