It's really hard to compare the private schools in Vancouver to HK's top private schools. It's like apples and oranges. Hk's education system, public or private are very wide range in quality, teaching methods, teachers, type of students, curriculum...etc. So it's hard to give you a factual answer.
What I can tell you is: Alot of my students (piano) are from Vancouver like me, the schools most of my Vancouver students are attending are:
HKIS, Canadian Int'l school, and South Island.
If it's USA you are looking at for universities, HKIS and South Island have been quite good. Although when they were writing for their entrance essays, they still needed my help in proofreading, and etc. But they all got into very good universities upon graduation from these schools.
Although I have students NOT attending these schools necessarily, and they manage to get into top universities in UK, Canada, AND USA.
My advice is: If you have to move back to HK for whatever reason, there will be something for your girls here, if you have $$$, even better choices! And, although the school is a very important factor in the success of your child's education, I believe the child's natural ability, study habits, family support, family values, and realistic goals are really the real determinating factors.
BTW, be prepared to pay the PRICE for attending these schools, they are VERY expensive in comparison to Crofton, York House, St. Georges, VC, or West point grey.

Sorry about misreading your post (too late last night). I thought you were thinking about moving to HK...sorry it's the other way around?
I think your girls would LOVE it in Vancouver, the schools and classmates there and the whole atmosphere is different than HK's.
And what Ruth said is true, some of the public schools in Vancouver produce TOP NOTCH students. I have a former student who went to Eric Hamber, went into University with full scholarship.
Although I must say the percentage of students going into USA universities COMING from Vancouver.... are mainly from private schools, especially if you are looking at Ivy League schools.
my brother went to St. Georges, half of them went into Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Stanford, and NYU.
Public schools in Vancouver, I would say majority stay in Canadian Universities.
But challenging, definitely HK's schools would be a lot more challenging, and more exposure to things than in Vancouver. The students in Vancouver are generally more "laid back" than HK's.
But in Vancouver, these private schools are the closest you can come to comparing to anything like HK's schools.
