What kind of mattress protection should we use for a newborn? Do we need a waterproof sheet as well as an anti-allergy cover? Is this going over the top?

waterproof sheet usually have a plastic layer which makes them quite hot for the baby.

I've found very nice thick 100% cotton brushed sheet at Bumps to Babes and I'm very happy with them.

I don't use anti-allergy cover.

According to the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths, the outside of the matress should be waterproof like PVC or have a removable washable cover that is easy to keep clean.
