What's your AC policy when you're out all day and just the helper is home alone? It is indeed hot here in HK but do you all leave the AC on all day for the helper?

Our local helper actually prefers a fan to a/c.

Most of the PH helpers we have in our house turm the AC off the minute I walk out of the room - far too cold for them. And naturally when I return to the room I try to bear it for as long as I can before I turn it back on. Having said that I don't think you can reasonably make a rule that the AC is not allowed to be used when you are not in the house.

Foolonahill,
Maybe these helpers are friends of TC / his wife. I doubt TC is running a large Victorian country house in HK with dozens of staff....!

Surely the DH can adjust the thermostat if she finds it to cold? Beats ironing in 40 degree heat!

Foolonahill,
Well picked up. It is well recorded on this site that I am a staunch follower of the 'no helper' policy and, although there have been times over recent years when we felt it might have been handy to have had one in the house, basically there are no regrets for having made such a decision. But we have many friends (through family and the church) who are helpers and they are often in the house, especially on stat holidays.

Sounds like too obvious a solution mango2! Pretty sad when people can only justify allowingf their helpers to use AC on productivity grounds!!! Heaven forbid that they let the helper choose what works for them as a human being. Credit the girl with some common sense, am guessing that she will only turn it on where she is, and not turn the whole house into a fridge.
