Weaning tips?

I breastfed both of my two boys until they turned 1 year old. For sure kids know what is the best, that's why they are not keen on cows milk after the real thing from mom :) My boys liked neither cows milk nor formula, they threw up after only one sip..... so I started to give them yoghurt, which worked perfectly. My older boy is now four, he drinks only chocolate milk and taking yoghurt and cheese, whereas my younger boy is now 18 months, he loves his cheese and yoghurt too. The main thing is to get the calcium from milk or milk products. Have a look at www.babycenter.com, they have a lot of tips for parents.

Small amounts of cow's milk in a breastfed baby with no family history of allergies is fine. You may try mixing it 50/50 with expressed breast milk and gradually titrating it. Another option is to add a small amount of fruit like a smoothie, again gradually reducing the amount of fruit over time.

My baby hated cows milk at first as well. i started when he was about 8 months. I found out that he liked the tea I always drink - Roiboos (very healthy and suitable for babies) and added some milk to it. I then slowly increased the milk. In the end he would drink 4/5 milk and 1/5 tea to give it the taste. When he was one year he didn't mind the milk anymore.
