I've lost weight!... But...

Hi,

I've recently dropped a few pounds, both for health reasons and to look better. The weight loss was a pain in the beginning, especially controlling the quantity and quality of my intake (I love food you see!). But I've gotten passed that and managed to lose about 60 pounds or so.

The only problem is that now I have a lot of jiggly bits, like upper arms. People say it's not that bad, but I feel more asahmed of the way I look now than I did when I was bigger.

Is this a toning problem? Does anyone know what exercises would work best? Also, what's the best way to get rid of a belly? I find doing sit ups only really helps your gut (i.e. abdominal area), but my spare tyre is just above my hips.

Thank you for any advice...

Congrats!!!! Got any secrets you can share with the rest of us?

I've lost weight in the past

(about 35lbs) and had that problem with my stomach - now that I've gained some weight back (my own fault... not exercising and eating waaaaay too much) my skin is tighter but so are my clothes.

I'd take a bit of baggy loose skin on my tummy any day compared to what I look like now.

Anyways... good luck. Keep it all in perspective. If it doesn't go away through exercise, don't get down on yourself. I'm sure you look great and you deserve feel confident and happy. Be proud of your accomplishment!

Congratulations on your weight loss - 60lbs is fantastic!! How long did it take you to lose that much and how did you do it?? I need to lose about 40-50lbs so any advice that you can give from your experience as a successful dieter would be very much appreciated. Well done!!

congraulations Ms. Pacman! that is a huge accomplishment.

like Primrose, i am a big advocate of pilates - you get perfectly toned, and a great body shape, without getting too wiry/muscle-y.

however, skin has limited elasticity, and you shouldn't feel bad about exploring non-surgical and surgical solutions.

a family friend of my mother's has just tried this new non-invasive procedure called Titan. it is supposedly safer than Thermage. she did her face and neck, and plans to do her upper arms (the "jiggly bits" you mentioned) and the loose skin on her stomach.

here are some links (but please do more of your own research)

as for surgical procedures...well i'd just be paraniod about the scars, and going under the knife scares the bejesus out of me. another family friend did a tummy tuck years ago (after giving birth to four sons) and her stomach has remained flat. however, she'll never wear a bikini again.

good luck :-)

Hello all,

Thanks for all the advice!

I definately do not what to go under the knife to fix the jiggly bits mainly because I can't stand the pain, but also because I don't want to have unecessary scars all over.

voiceofreason, I will have a read through those websites. In the meantime, I also heard that masssages on a regular basis help tone your body and gives the skin back its elasticity, but it normally takes 6-8 months to see results!

As for losing the 60 pounds, it took mme 8 months or so to lose the weight and to keep it off.

I think the best thing to do is not to deny yourself of certain "no-no" foods. But at the same time, you should be aware of the things you are putting into your body. So if you let yourself have a rich dessert after a meal, that is perfectly OK, but you need to limit yourself on how much of that dessert you can have.

It's difficult at the beginning, and that's why the other important thing to have is the support of a friend. They don't even have to be dieting with you, but it really helps to have someone to call on the "bad days".

Again, kick-starting everything is the most important. Once you start seeing the results that naturally pushes you to keep going!

By the way, if you find it particularly hard to start the weight-loss process, because like me, if you do not eat large quantities of food, you feel like you have no energy, a good idea is to replace all the rich foods with fruits like watermelons and berries!

Fruit seems to be easier to digest and a lot of it is water, so you are actually detoxifying your body at the same time!

I guess the key is to understand how your metabolism works and how absorbant your body is.

I hope this helps anyone trying to get rid of a few pounds... and if you feel like you need that friendly support, just drop me a message!

Good luck everyone!!! And thanks again!!!
