Hi everyone
I'm heading to Singapore with my 2 children (by myself!). Any recommendations as to places to go?
I'm particularly after playground recommendations - indoor and outdoor. Safe places that I can take them to burn off their energy when I need a rest myself. If anyone knows of the huge indoor softplay centre in Central Chitlom in Bangkok - does S'pore have something like that?
Otherwise, interested in recommendations on things to do and eat. Only have the zoo in mind for the moment.
Thanks!

Hi there,
How long is your trip and whereabouts will you be staying?

Playgrounds: I am not familiar with indoor playgrounds in SG as you described. But there are lots of playgrounds found in the local public and private housing estates. Private clubs would have them too but doubt non-members can go if they don't know any members.
Other stuff to do:
- The zoo, absolutely! The day zoo will be fun for the shows, etc and the night safari (my in-laws, nieces from UK LOVED IT) if your kids are not too tired in the evening.

- The Jurong bird park

- Sentosa for a day on the beach, cycling...it's undergone a revamp recently so I think there might be quite a few activities to do.

- Are your kids active and willing to walk? If so, the Sungei Buloh Nature Reserve will be really nice to check out lots of interesting birds!
Food:
- For you or your kids or both? We have all the famous fast food and coffee joints at just about everywhere.
-For kids friendly places: lots of good reviews about this restaurant called the globetrotters at united square. tons of activities for kids to do there and normal grub for adults too. http://www.globetrotters.com.sg/
-Sample local delights at places like Newton Hawker Centre (touristy and more pricey than other hawker centres but I assume you will be staying in the centralised hotel so newton will be most convenient)
-Singaporeans love to eat so you won't go hungry, food is clean and safe in Singapore too so be adventurous!
My nieces (between 4-8) visited Singapore last year: they went just about everywhere with their parents but i think what they loved most was swimming in the hotel pool!
I will post more when I have more ideas.....

Mine's 3 and we had just 3 days there a month or so ago. For us, a cable car to Sentosa for underwater world and the butterfly garden was great. There's a little barefoot water fountain-y thing just as you get outside of the cable car complex, loads of fun. Maybe plan a change of clothes for that one. Both the zoo and the night safari are great.
I have one of those silver sun umbrellas, makes a huge difference between "hot and miserable" and "reasonably comfortable" :-)

yes, dress your kids lightly....it is HOT HOT HOT in singapore and can make little kids tired and grumpy so don't plan to do too much in a day. drinking lots of water will be important too in this heat!

Thanks for your replies. We're there for a week and staying at the Pan Pacific, which I think is near a big mall.
Globetrotters looks great. Will definitely take the kids there for some indoor air-conditioning and food!
The two water fountain areas sound good too - both of my kids love water so no doubt we will be in it a lot!
Any other ideas?
Thanks

Ha ha!! Joshmomm - you must be psychic - I have an incredible weakness for shoes. I will definitely head to both those shops! (but may need to figure out how to hide them from the hubby who thinks I have too many... why do men never understand...).
Perthites - That website looks great. Heaps of ideas there.
Thanks all for your great replies!

it's not just urs and charles & keith...step into any mall and it'll be tough to leave without buying a pair of shoes! don't miss orchard road. and since you're staying pan pac, marina square will be great for shopping as it's undergone a recent revamp, great mix of local and foreign shops. oh yes, lots of food options and there is a mothercare and local kid's shop called Kiddy Palace there - check them out!
taxis: take them unless you want them to take the MRT and bus for the experience. taxis are not too expensive in singapore and saves the hassle when you have 2 kids in tow.
