Just out of curiosity, if you were so far gone that you forgot to check the damage and pick up your card before you left, how do you know it was "incorrectly charged"?

Billy Bats,
I am a credit card expert - technically, the card has been swiped through an electronic device which means this is a "cardholder present scenario"...which means even if u havent signed the sales slip, your credit card account would be charged.
However you can go for a 'chargeback' i.e. call up HSBC, tell them the merchant has cheated you & they will use the appropriate reason code & give you a temporary credit. The onus is on the merchant to prove that you really incurred these expenses [ by proviing your signatures on slips or something to that effect]
Please speak with the chargeback department of hsbc
cheers
