It depends on how inexpensive you want it to be. I've stayed at a couple of places before moving permanently to here. Rent-a-Room HK is very close to Jordan MTR station, and only charges a couple of hundred bucks a night for single rooms. I believe their website is www.rentaroomhk.com- if not it should be easy to Google. It's convenient, but VERY small, at least for the single rooms (I didn't have a double, so couldn't speak of price). I also stayed at Accelerators International Hotel once- a little pricier, as I recall, but still not bad and you get a single and double bed in the room. Accelerators is along Nathan Road (again, can't remember more info, but Googling should give you what you need). Both are cheap, but look and see if they are OK by you.

Baptist University in Kowloon Tong has a small hotel that charges about $460/night. If you are not a HKBU member you can have rooms if there are vacancies

They may have changed the policy since we had friends stay there - we have always just turned up and paid for a room. Because it is holiday time they may be more willing to accept walk ins - give them a call and see what if you can get around that policy.
