High Definition TV?

Hi,

Can someone please let me know whether a HD TV will be required to view broadband tv (NOW) from next year? I'm looking to buy a LCD screen TV, and I have been hearing conflicting about whether to buy a HD TV or not - at the store they told me I need one, else I will not be able to view certain channels that will be transmitted high definition next year. Is this true, or is it just that I won't be able to view them in high definition, but I will still be able to view the channels.

Would appreciate any input, since the HD TV requirement increases the cost over others in the same category by quite a bit (HKD 1K). Many thanks!

I think there's a very likely chance you would be able to see these programs still. I would expect the STB (Set Top Box) would internally format the signal and also provide a SD (Standard Definition) signal from the non HD output on the STB.

Dont worry about it; if you are buying a budget model. You'll be able to use and watch whatever is available and worst case like ICRB say; the STB will downconvert for you so the screen can accept.
