Income/salary

This is not strictly a women's only topic, but I do think we place a value on our skills that tends to be lower than how men value theirs. New to HK and about to interview at a few places, and am really not sure what salary to ask for. While realising that this depends on what I can do and current salaries in the relevant industry...does anyone know of any guidelines for women and income here?

Thanks,

as a woman, you can safely assume that you will be offered lower starting pay and lower pay rises throughout your career, UNLESS you set the tone early. this is true for 99% of small family-owned businesses all the way up to big multinationals, in third world and in developed countries - i don't care what they say on paper or in public.

i can't find the link anymore but i read somewhere that one of the biggest mistakes women make right off the bat is accepting the first offer an employer makes. never do this. as Primrose advised, have a well-researched number in mind plus a big fat margin when you begin negotiations, but make the employer make the first offer.

during your career, document every single one of your achievements, so you are well prepared come salary review time.

best of luck!
