Looking forward for the birth of my girl in October. Wondering what is the vaccination/immunization/injection schedule like in HK? Don’t really want to travel so far back to Australia or Singapore.

Our Pediatrician gave us a list - you can ask your dr or Adventist or Matilda - they might even have it on their websites.
Where in HK are you planning to take your baby for his shots? They should provide a list for you in advance if you ask.

We joined the Well Baby Program at the Canossa Hospital. I highly recommend it if you will be here for 3 years, as it is a 3 year program.
The program that covers all required immunizations, 2 dental checkups plus some additional developmental assessments. As I remember, the doctor checks the baby almost everytime. You can call them at 2522-2181 for more details.

Hi Avineki
Just bear in mind that the Hong Kong immunization schedule does not replicate the Australian immunization schedule. If you want to replicate the Aust schedule, your children will need additional immunisations ie the HIB vaccinations and the Prevnar (pneumococcal) vaccines.

I'm in China currently and its a tad too troublesome travelling to HK with a young one..:(

alvineki, is your daughter going to be born in GZ? Mine was born in HK (at QMH, a government hospital) so I follow the HK government immunisation schedule. The only thing I did differently was to get the 5 in 1 in GZ (it's not offered at government hosps in HK) which I got at Euram - I think it was about US$200
I can fully vouch for how troublesome travelling to HK with a little one is, but you do get used to it!!

Yes, she will be born in GZ. USD200 is pretty steep!

Welcome to the world of babies - you'll never have any spare cash again!!!
I agree 200 is pretty steep - but cheaper than paying medical bills should she catch any of those diseases..... and I figured it was the most cost effective way of dealing with them. Guess I'm lucky as i get the rest for free in HK

just a discussion about this right now. You want to go to MCHC...listed on the hospital website. Here is the thread - there are directions, listings and costs. ($1 HKD.)

ok but what is concretely done to avoid vaccination?
nothing because as soon we want to enroll our chilren in any day care or nursery, the vaccination of the child is being asked.. and nobody will take a child whithout the complete vaccination calendar...

thanks. I know that in some countries it is fairly possible not to vaccinate and that more and more parents chooose so.. but I'm living here so I wish to know about here.. the vaccination calendar is regulated by law so if you can find a single ped willing to write an 'exemption from immunization' or any nursery/school which will take my child without being vaccinated, please I want to know!!!!!

To Mamouna, I have had kids at one school or another for 15 years and never have I been asked what vaccines they've had. (9 of those years in HK). Certainly in HK and UK vaccines are not compulsory but obviously very strongly advised. There are certain vaccines my kids have not had but it has never been an issue at school.
Some vaccines are not suitable for everyone, e.g some vaccines are not suitable for children with egg allergies, or epilepsy, or if they're receiving chemo or some other drugs.

CD, thanks a lot for sharing this.
well.. overhere a copy of the vaccines is always required.. but I'll see the reaction of the nursery pretty soon anyway (we only started to vaccinate our child at some 20 months.. so she only got 1 or 2 shots sofar and because of the nursery..

In HK when the school age vaccines are required (the ones they can get done at school in p1 and p6) they send a letter home with either a consent form and your childs vaccination record, or a non agreement form. I have sent in a non agreement form several times and it has never been commented up. To be honest I find it hard to believe that in Macau vaccinations are compulsory, how can they make you do something to you child that you might not agree with?
