Bad Smell After Flushing

ORIGINAL POST

My toilet gives a bad smell AFTER flushing. I live in a building which is less than a year old. Anyone know if there is a quick fix or do I need to go to the management company?

The suggestions regarding contacting the mgt office or plumber might well be the best option. If you recall Amoy Gardens during SARs, there was a problem with a cracked sewer vent pipe which allowed droplets of contaminated water enter back into the system. Of course it's more likely to be a problem with the u-bend.

Agree it could be a crack - or...if you live near the top of the building or near a flue vent you can sometimes get a bit of a backdraft as the smell wafts out - super! Some buildings seem to be worse than others so worth asking management to check it out if it's bad. I had a similar problem in one of the flats I lived in, but never asked as it wasn't too bad and only lasted a short time - sometimes it can also occur when someone in a lower flat flushes and the smell comes up the vent - lovely!

I had a similiar problem. I dumped boiling water and bleach down the floor drain a few days in a row. Then I got this white cap from Citysuper ($35) that covers the drain but has one way inlet doors incase you have a flood.

I have stepped in and deleted some unacceptable comments in the name of preventing WW3.

Cant we just all get along????

And a word of advise to anyone who feels the need to express racist comments on this site - please go back to your home country and crawl under a rock - because that's where you belong.
