We get things sewn in WorldWide House as it is convenient. Our Amah often just arranges it all for us - either there or through one of her friends who has a sewing machine.

BUT about mattresses... I thought that one of the important things about infant mattresses was SIDS safety. And that SIDS approved mattresses are important - which I think means made of certain materials and very firm? So I am not sure about the getting a mattress made part...

Hopefully someone else has more input on this?

Here are some places to look - maybe you can write to one of the below and ask?

Agree with crj. You have to be very careful about the type of mattress you use for you baby. I would never dream of going to a random shop to custom make a mattress for a baby.

However, the fact is that most babies don't/can't roll over when they are in a moses basket, because a moses basket is really designed only for a newborn. Rolling over is one of the key reasons for SIDs, since your baby could suffocate if face down on the mattress/bedding. In the end, a moses basket just isn't practical after 3-6 months. At some point, you will have to buy a crib or cot, so you may just want to invest in a good crib/cot when you are ready and for your moses basket use some heavy bedding/quilts with a fitted sheet as a cover.

Thanks for your replies. Yes, i will put the baby in moses for 2-3 months only. We have a good cot, but i am thinking of sometimes putting the baby in moses basket as it's more practical for me. I thought that baby will not roll over on those months so the mattress is no big deal. Well, i guess i'll just buy a new sheet and not the mattress.

If it is only 3 months, and the moses basket is in good condition and from a friend, I am sure the mattress is okay to use.
