Where to buy a good baby wrap? What brand and material would you suggest? Should we use a different one in summer vs winter?

Look like crj said it all ;-)
I'm also doing a babywearing meeting. See the other thread... The aim of the meeting is not only to learn about all the different kind of baby carrier/sling but also to have fun ;-)

Thanks so much crj! I'm reading the threads now. Very informative.
By the way, I'm not sure where La Leche League is. Any info?

It's their new Hong Kong website, nearly nobody know about it as they are still working on it and leaflet refer to the old website. I only know about it because I've help out a little in the beginning and help out with the webhoster. ;-)

Thanks all! My baby is due in Oct so I suppose I should choose a winter sling?

Nicher - for HK, I suggest a summer sling all year round - winter really means winter north american style.

Nicher, there is a evening session for working mum and mum-to-be ;-) It is only once a month so do consider leaving a little earlier for one evening ;-)

Oh that's true. Can't go too cold in winter in HK. Taylormadesling.com seems to have all the varieties! But is there any shop in HK that sell similar product so that hubby and I can try that on?

err...anyway i went ahead buying the maya wrap from LLL,only brand they have...regret,too hot for this weather like cri said..

The reality is - wearing clothing is hot and sticky in humid HK weather, holding your baby any way outside is hot and stick.... so it probably doesn't make too much of a difference at the end of the day :)
There are benefits and negatives to each type of carrier.
I can't go to the NappyPooh session, but I am sure it will be interesting and there will be a chance to see and try different baby carriers.
For a newborn, I like the slightly stretchy pouches, like Kangaroo Korner -even though they are warm, they are easy to use.
For summer I like Taylor Made Slings Organic Cotton Mesh.
The most comfortable shoulder is a more padded sling - but too hot for me :)
As they have not invented the air conditioned sling yet, nothing is perfect!
When we walk around HK and we see parents carrying their toddlers, I just think how much easier it would be if they had a handy sling in their bag for those moments the child decides they don't want to walk.
So something is better than nothing, and anything is hot in Hong Kong, and many places are indoors with A/C!

To tell the truth, I've decided on organizing the Nappypooh meeting because I just don't know any place where you can try them on and see as many variety, and talk to others mums who have also tried some differents kind of baby slings.
I'm also going to sell some karma pouches : www.karmababy.com, but the order is still under process so I won't have any to show on next week meeting.
As for similar sling to tailormadesling, there is only the mayawrap I know about for now. Im going to do sone research because if there is other distributors, I'd like them to come to my babywearing meeting too...

If wearing a wrap is too hot try a mei tai. (Google mei tai and you'll find some gorgeous ones). It crosses with thinner straps across the back and I find that my LO pushes herself away from me with her arms when she's too hot to let some air through - I can also hold her away from me for the same reason. They're not cool, as no baby carrying ever will be, but they are a more airy option.
I'd love to try a wrap though - had a linen one made but just can't work out how to do it so think a stretchy one might be better for me - can't do ring slings... just don't work for my LO!!
Shame I can't make the meeting - nappypooh, any chance of a weekend one some time in the future and then I could come down to HK....

Spicegal, the problem with the WE is that the place I lease for the meeting is already always full on saturday and not open on Sunday. Maybe if I see a lot of inquries for Sunday, I could try to ask for a favor...
For now, we can try to work out your problem here. From what I understand, you already have a linen wrap but don't see how to tie it up ? Having a visual may help. I'm selling some videos (just received it yesterday, have to set it up on the site), but you can already see on http://www.mamatoto.org/. They have some videos which could help you.
If you need anything, don't hesitate to email me, I'll try to help you out at best as I can.
