Can anyone recommend a good currency exchange place where I can get some Baht before I go to Thailand?

Should I wait till I get to the airport or go to HSBC?

Or, should I wait till I get in Thailand to get Baht?

Any help would be appreciated, as I don't want to be cheated!

Thanks.

I don think you can get a better rate than through an ATM - if you dont use hsbc though you will get hit with a transaction fee so make sure you take out all you need or as much as can be withdrawn in the least number of transactions. I think the fee is HKD30...

there's only 1 (ONE) HSBC office in Thailand as far as I know.. It's in Bangkok but it's no where near the airport..

I have a friend who has one of them VIP accounts at Standard Charter... she was told that the best rate for Baht is (drum roll please) in Thailand proper. IOW, fly in and get your baht there. If you want to be on the safe side, get a little here first.

I always do it at the airport. Good enough rate, and save all trouble. Not much different from little exchange shops in the streets.
