Any comments? Bub is currently using avent but think the teats are too hard for him...the pigeon peritaltic ones are nice and soft, fits with an avent but will leak at times.

Hi Wheelymate --not sure if the Pigeon bottles that we have are the peritaltic (?) ones, but we've actually started with Avent, then also had Dr. Brown and Chicco. The Pigeon bottles were what worked best for us --no leaks, soft and durable! The Pigeon teats that we have don't fit with the (fat and short) Avent bottles we have, though they work with the Chicco bottles.

Hi Kwis,
Thanks for your answers.
I am referring specifically to the wide neck Pigeon bottles. Are they travel proof ie if i fill them up with hot water before I go out so that it will cool down in time for next feed, will the water leak from the bottle? because for avent, the y are leak proof. thanks!

Sorry, Wheelymate --afraid I can't help you there. The Pigeon bottles we use are the long and narrow ones. So far, though, we've never experienced any leakage with the Pigeon bottles. Just a question --why don't you just fill up the bottle with already cooled down water instead of hot water and then waiting for it to cool down? For going out, we used to take a thermos/flask with us for hot water, but moved on to just bringing bottled water and mixing formula with it.

Hi
We went on to the Pigeon perstaltic bottles (with the wide neck)from about 8 weeks. We have travelled heaps and the only problem has been once when the nappy bag with spare filled bottles was placed upside down in the overhead locker of the plane. Some poor gentleman got formula all over his backpack. We found the pigeon bottles excelent but ... the plastic cap that fits over the bottle isn't the best in that it needs to clip in place straight on (sorry, not the best description of the problem). Other than that, would recommend them.

Dear Wheelymate!
I have tried using the Pigeon Wideneck bottles. But when my bub was younger, she used to suck the teats till they contracted all the way in and we have ended up with milk all over a couple of times. And another problem is the covers don't sit well unlike the Avent ones.

Hi,
I have tried Avent and Dr Brown bottles with my baby (she's almost 4 mo) but found that they both leak a lot. That was surprising, considering these two are well known brands and highly recommended. We gave up after several attempts, and switched to Pigeon. It seems to work well and hasn't leaked at all so far. I use the rubber teats and baby appears to enjoy it. I haven't seen Pigeon wide-neck bottles around...where can I find them? Watsons, Jusco and Mannings only sell the narrow kind.
I do have a question here in relation to bottles. When do you change teats to a bigger hole, and is it necessary to change teats if you use the hole punch to make the current hole larger? My baby fussed for a while two weeks ago whenever she was feeding and I thought maybe the hole (small size) was too small, so I changed to a medium one. However, the flow came out too quickly and she was drinking too fast, so we stopped and changed back to the small size teat. She drinks ok now but I am wondering when I will need to punch a bigger hole or change teat?

jen,
i am from SG so sorry can't advise on where you can buy the wide neck pigeon in HK.
i bought some pigeon bottles today, decided to change them all as we have seen an improvement in bub's milk drinking. i just feel the caps, etc isn't as secure as avent....
kwis: what i do is i fill boiled water in the bottles at the start of the day. but if i know i am going somewhere that might be pretty cool (some shopping centres have major aircon blasting), then i would fill up with hot water before i go so that the temperature is just right when it is time to feed. that's why i am asking if pigeon bottles leak....but just in case they do, i have sealing discs from avent...i might fill cool boiled water into the avent and pour in pigeon when i am out. not a big fan of the hot flask, i have one but i find it cumbersome....hope i am making sense, haha!

jen:
my grandma told me what she used to do was to poke a red hot needle through the teat to enlarge them if the teat is too small but the next stage too large. i have tried that though but didn't work too well for me! was much easier just to change to a bigger teat!
