have an 11month old - 20lb baby girl and looking to buy a suitable carseat. have looked in mothercare and toys r'us so far. we'v seen britax and maxi-cosy so far.

any recommendations on which carseats are the better ones. also the ones we saw are all forward facing, and in canada they recommend rear facing until at least 1yr old and then turning it around to face forward. are there rear and forward facing carseats in hk?

I think you cant go wrong if you purchase either a Maxi-Cosi or Britax. They are both concidered one of the best car seats around, its just what ever fits in your car the best.

thanks a lot Kimmi for the info. do most of them just need the seatbelt to strap the carseat in, or do they require the anchors in the car? i always thought it's safer with the anchors, but only the newer cars have the isofixers.

thanks!

Yes I think the anchors actually make the car seat more stable. Have a chat with the sales people in the shop where you are going to purchase your car seat they (should) have an idea of what car seat fits in what car best. Mothercare may be a good start, they dont have a wide selection in their store but I think you can also purchase from their cataloge.

We've always been happy with the Britax line.

i just got a Britax car seat i got my mum to send it from Aust. They do have convertable ones not sure if they sell them in HK but heres the webiste it may help in finding the one you want I also rang Britax and asks for stockist britax.com.au

Mine has the car seatbelt which threads thru and an anchor strap. You should really use these as it prevents collor bone injuries if in an accident. I can use mine in S'pore as i use taxis but when ever we travel anywhere we we'll be hiring a car i will be using the anchor strap.

Are anchor straps different to Isofix? If we bring our English car seat to Oz on holiday, would they be insufficient? Should we rent Australian car seats with our rental car? Thanks

Anchor strap is the strap that is attached to the car seat and has a metal clip attached which anchors to a bolt which is bolted into the back dash (under the rear window) If you have alook at your car dash there should be a small plug which you can pop out from inside the boot you then fix the bolt at that point and after you put the carseat in you then attach the anchor/theather strap. This holds the car seat it place better it kind of goes around the outside of the carseat.I'm not sure what Isofix is sorry.

When we moved over to Australia from UK we couldnt use our Maxi Cosi there because you need more attachments on your car seat etc to fit to the car making it more safer under Australian Law. So yes rent a car seat when you rent the car. Have a great holiday

Thanks Kimmi and Perthites, will rent them. Australian standards are fantastic, wish they were as strict here.
