toddler disturbing baby's nap.

how do you cope with a noisy toddler and making sure he is not disturbing his younger brother naptime.Everytime im trying to make him fall asleep,the kid will be awakened by the older kid.I tried putting them to bed together at the same time,but is not always sucessful!Now,my poor baby has mess-up naptimes for the past 2 weeks!!I told the older one not to make too loud a noise for if the baby is alseep,we can then have our own playtime.5 mins later,he forgets and is happily shouting away..:)

ellie, I had the same problem.... not only did she purposely scream loudly whenever the little one was sleeping, she would go over and shake the bed, or whack him with a toy, or throw something inside the crib while the baby was sleeping. She thought it was hilarious whenever I yelled at her, or chased after her ..... attention is what she wanted, and that's what I did, reinforced it.


So, instead .... whenever she did try to disturb her baby brother, I learned to just ignore her, and if the baby does wake up, I pick up the baby, and pat him back to sleep. After about 2 days, my daughter stopped doing it b/c she realized I was giving even MORE attention to the baby by her disturbance. And she thought it wasn't fun anymore.


Now whenever baby brother is sleeping, she would walk by quietly, and say "come mommy, baby is sleeping, let's go play.".


Easier said than done... I know. but try it out. If all fails, what you should do is just keep the toddler out of the room while the baby naps. IF they are in the same room, I keep the baby in my room until toddler is asleep at night.


My baby is still 8 months, so I have another crib for him in my room. I am waiting until he reaches 1 year before I place him in his own room. I like to check on him a few times during the night.
