I suspect my 4 mo baby has some form of silent reflux as she displays several of the symptoms listed on their website. She was fine all along until the recent two weeks when she fussed a lot during some of her feedings (most apparent during the late evening feeds), so I'm planning on trying out a different formula to see if it's better. Someone on this thread recommended Isomil and another one recommended Nursoy. Are they both available in HK and where can I find them? Will Park N Shop or Mannings carry these soy-based formula or do I need to go to a specialty shop?
Please give advice as I'm getting desperate, seeing my baby struggle so much whenever she feeds and not finishing her milk. She used to enjoy drinking and was putting on weight until the past couple of weeks. I can see that she is hungry but drinking has become distressing for her.

hi jen1812, my baby (2nd one) has switched to isomil for 3 months now, but it's due to his eczema, the ped recommended he go on a soy formula. Indeed, his eczema has really improved, and practically gone. But your baby's problem is different.
Have you taken your baby to the ped? Best to consult your pediatrician and let him check your baby out before switching to other formulas.
Isomil is available everywhere in Park N Shop, Wellcome, Mannings, Watsons, and pharmacies. However, Isomil isn't for every baby. Many babies get constipation really bad from it, and others are fine.
How does your baby fuss ? Is it gas? I switched bottles when baby started fussing after every feed, and the problems were gone!
Also, maybe your baby is teething? Like mine... started pushing the bottle/nipple away in 3 feeds out of 6 a day.... doesn't want his milk alternate feeds.... etc.
With the help of changing the bottles, nipples, and gripe water to soothe his gums, he was fine in about 3 days.

jen1812,
i had the same problem with my son who was diagnosed with silent reflux. however, after his reflux had settled, i also noticed that he seemed to push the milk away but wasn't averse to drinking water. therefore figured he didn't like the milk. the formula he was on was Cow & Gate (imported from the UK avail at B2B) and we then tried him on the following:
Cow & Gate (as mentioned) - cried when drinking it
Aptamil (from UK) - hated it - refused to drink it
Aptamil (from HK) - still hated it
Enfamil AR (thickened milk recommended by midwife for colic/reflux babies) - spat it out
Enfamil - refused to drink it
Prosobee (soy) - spat it out
Eventually, we tried him on OLAC which is a cow's milk formula with NO lactose in it and he drank it very happily. Any attempt to fool him by reverting to another brand DOES NOT WORK. He figures it out straight away!
So maybe try the lactose free cow's milk if you're worried about soy. Many babies who are allergic to lactose can be allergic to soy as well so soy isn't a great alternative to lactose intolerance. OLAC has no lactose and seems to do the job for my son - who am i to argue.

Hi Katetam,
My baby girl is probably also teething as she drools a lot. However, I still reckon it's also silent reflux as she constantly hiccups, has poor weight gain and pushes her bottle away after about 80 ml or so. Each feeding has to be split into 2 or 3 sessions and can take over an hour. I give her gripe water everyday and have changed bottles three times already. Currently she's using Pigeon which she seems to like. She's due for an injection tomorrow so we will talk to the ped about her problems too, and will probably try out a small can of Isomil to see how she reacts. I think her digestion system isn't very good and is probably another symptom of silent reflux. Her bowel movements are normal most of the time though.

exyogi, that information is very scary. I always had the suspicion that soy formula simply wasn't the best for babies. I recently took my baby to another ped, and he told me that Soy formulas are nonsense, and it doesn't reduce eczema. So he told me that it's actually a commercial secret....he said I should avoid all formulas that are made in UK, Ireland, (Northern Europe) b/c of the Nuclear plant that exploded some decades ago, and it's still affecting all the soil....etc. Discovery Channel just talked about it last week, so I assume it's NOT that big of a secret.
But he told me to buy Japanese brand Formula, or Australian Made. It's best, and it's what most ped's feed their own kids!
He said I have to read the can where the formula is made. Same brand can be made in different countries. So Wyeth, I had this can from Ireland, and this one from Singapore, and so on.
Befor I tried Cow and Gate, it was actually from Indonesia !!!
Anyways, I am on Snow Brand, b/c I can't afford the very expensive brand of Meiji ($ 400 a can), but my friends who use it says their babies love it, and are so happy with it.
Anyways, I am using Snow Brand, and baby's skin is fine, he's not constipated, and I am so happy he's not on Soy anymore.

jen1812,
we are in the same boat. my doc said possible my bub might have silent reflux but reluctant to prescribe any medication for it. i am just trying to live with it and not get too frustrated with it. i set a 120ml min for each feed but if he just refuses to take anymore after 45 mins, i stop to avoid upsetting him or me.
i changed bottles too, it worked for a few days and went back to the same problem again. have considered changing formula but not sure how much it will help. you should check with your bub's doc about a formula to recommend for her condition.
good luck, i know exactly how you feel!!
