How many months did you breast feed your baby?

Are you still breastfeeding?

Why did you breast feed for that amount of time? Why did you stop?

What are your thoughts on when a woman should stop?

34 months

no

wanted to breastfeed till age of 2 and gently wean, I stopped because I was ready to stop

The decision solely depends on the mother and child - if one of them is not enjoying it or doesn't want to then it's best to stop.

About 14 months - it just kind of wound down without any effort either way. It was enough, I think, as I work full time.

I'm planning to b/f for 6 months. I will be returning to work at that point so that is why I plan to stop then. Otherwise I would have gone on until 12 months.

Agree with Cara's comment above. If a child is old enough to ask for it, he is prob too old to breastfed.

14 months and still going.

I plan to wean when baby is ready for it. He only bf at bedtime and in the morning.

My only concern is abouth the teeth. When baby falls asleep while drinking I cannot brush the teeth afterwards.

Any experience with that?

1 pathetic week. i was a breastfeeding failure (formerly a total breastfeeding fanatic wannabe) but promise to try harder with no. 2 next time. and if direct latching fails, at least pump like mad until there is no milk left but to turn to formula.

i personally think 1 year is a good time to start weaning the bub off the breast but this is really up to what the mom and bub are most comfortable with, we shouldn't judge. i have never been one to feel disgusted by public bf, it's food for the baby, we all have to eat! but you'll be surprised by how people are uncomfortable with that, even breastfeeding moms themselves!

Before my baby's birth, I was planning on 6 months... then 12 months... and now she's 13,5 months, and it is still going on... Can't help it, there is always something that keep me postponing it :D For example, right now she has a cold so nothing has much taste and the only thing she seems happy to have is my milk, and since there are plenty antibodies on it, well, now is certainly not the good time to wean!
