that's what my bub has been doing these few mornings as he comes into a light sleep! we hear him crying at about 5.30-6am. initially we ignored him as we wanted him to settle, thinking he was just being fussy. but when we went in at 7am one morning, he was sleeping but his feet were stuck between the cot bars (despite the grobag), probably why he cried for help.
and this morning, we found him stuck again and when my hubby tried to put him on his back again, he rolled to his side the next second and stuck his feet between the cot bars. hubby reckons he will grow out of it once he knows how to free himself. is that right or do we need cot bumpers (or is that more dangerous)?
my main concern is that if he keeps doing this at 5.30-6am and we keep going in to "save" him, he will soon wake up regularly at this time. but at the same time, i don't want to ignore him and let him cry it out as he could potentially be in danger (note though his cot is completely clear save for the cot mobile).
any advice?

Sounds familiar! My bub is developing quite acrobatic skills as well, and we find him more and more often lying on his belly with his head at the foot end of the cot, squeezed in sideways, or with arms and legs stuck between the bars. Quite often he just sleeps on, but sometimes he wakes up during the night or early in the morning because he has maneuvered himself into an impossible position (the grobag has no effect on this whatsoever). I bought cot bumpers and sewed additional ribbons on to fix them really well. This helps him to fall asleep (he loves the funny animals pictures), but does not hinder his gymnastics exercises. The pediatrician told me not to worry, but check on him if he is crying during the night to make sure he's not in trouble. I just hope he'll grow out of this after a while ...

someone gave me a tip this afternoon. said to try to put the bub in bed with his feet against the cot board (instead of putting him in the middle) and tuck the grobag under the mattress to prevent bub from moving all over the bed. will try that after his dream feed!

littlebuddha,
tried the grobag tip last night, it worked! we tucked it under his mattress and although he stirred at 5.30am, he fell back asleep again, we did check on him but didn't have to adjust his position at all. he slept until 7am, thank goodness!

I keep a camera near his bed - and every night at 11 and every morning I take a photo of what position I find him in... he seems to favour his side, and sometimes he is still cuddling/sucking on his 'transitional object'. We have so much fun wondering how he got from one end of the bed to the other.
We leave him with his feet at the 'bottom' on his back. He often instantly rolls to his side to cuddle his 'transitional object'. Then somehow he winds up at the top of the bed on his other side, facing the bars, or in a kneeling position with his rear end in the air - it is hysterical! I wish we could video this so we knew how he actually did it! Sometimes he is on his back in 'star fish position' other times on his tummy, other times curled up like a peanut...
He can now get himself to stand up all alone by holding the side bars - I am waiting for the day we come in and find him sleeping standing up!

a camera!!
yes, it is very funny to find them in the strangest of positions. the first time i found him, i thought i must have been so tired the night before that i couldn't remember which way i put him down!

Wheelymate,
The grobag tip sounds good, but I'm afraid me little one is too strong already - he'll probably just pull the whole thing out, since the matress is quite thin and lightweight. Anyway, I'll give it a try. Last night I found him again face down squeezed sideways into the upper right corner of his cot...

I love this thread!
I can't wait to see what amazing positions and tangles our little one will get into. Babies really are amazing and perplexing little beings. Perhaps one of you should leave a video camera by the cot to see how the little ones get from A to B.

my bub is 21 weeks but using the 6-18 month old grobag now so that is long enough for us to tuck it under the mattress. it worked again for us last night, thank goodness!
vulvic: yes the positions they get themselves into is hilarious, i slightly regret getting a cot instead of cot bed as that would have allowed more space for the bub to move around!
