I have a ford galaxy (1998 7 seat van).. we are coming to hk this week, Can bub who is only 7 weeks old sit in the intergrated child seat? it has shoulder straps, straps between legs and round tummy.. but faces forwards?? otherwise is there a car seat/capsule that faces backwards that can be fitted just with seat belt as I cant remember if my car has anchor points? thanks for your help.

I would say 7 weeks is too young for the seat you've described, but don't take my word for it as I've never seen it. Most rear facing baby car seats (up to about 8 months) use a standard seat belt and do not require anchor points. Just make sure you use in a seat without an airbag, or turn it off if there is one.

As far as I know, there are no legal standards for how kids can travel in cars in HK. If there are laws, they're much laxer than those of the US, Europe or Australia. So you won't get in trouble, BUT, personally, I would look to a higher safety standard. In the US, infants are to travel in a rear facing carseat until 1 year of age (there's an associated weight, too, as I remember). In any event, I would consider 7 weeks too young to be facing forward, an impact (or even breaking sharply) could be devastating.

You have to research carseats that can be used without the base. It's not that straightforward, as you may have discovered already. I have an older Evenflow that I used in the taxis with my daughter when she was itty bitty. It wasn't the snazziest carseat in the world, but it was one of the few that is designed to be used with or without the base.

If you're just in HK a week or so, PM me and you can borrow ours. I have the base too, we just didn't have a car at the time. Take me up on it if you need it and no worries, it's just wrapped up and sitting in our storage closet.

I will be in hk for about 3 weeks so not sure if that is too long for you to lend it to me...if you want to sell it i would also consider that...thanks again for your kindness.
