Importing a vintage scooter (Vespa) from Europe

Dear all,

I'm saving up some money to import a vintage Vespa into HK.

Anybody knows who can help me with the importation processes and registrations processes? Is there some kind of special forwarding/importing company that deals with motorcycle/automobiles?

I questioned people at Transportation dept. and environment dept., etc. but nobody gave me the exact answers I needed.

Thus, and since I assumed that it'll be quite time consuming and irritating to do all the importing and registrations all by myself, I decided to find a good company to help me out.

Well, honestly, I'm kinda lost because all different people told me differently at the gov. bureaux. And the funny thing is that nobody gave me an exact Yes or an exact No.

Please help me out!

I imported a car a few years ago, and used the AA. They took care of everything from unloading from the container, to getting the relevant inspections done, through to registration and even licence plates. I'm not sure if they handle motorcycles/scooters, but give them a shout to find out.

Alternatively, you could approach one of the motorcycle shops here in HK. A lot of them import 2nd hand bikes from Japan, so they might be willing to help you out for a small fee.

Hope that helps.

It's worth checking if anyone in the HK Scooter clubs can help.

Give Simon in Sai Kung a call. 2791 0983

He has dealt with vintage motorcycles and scooters from 1920's onwards.

He can explain the documentation and process that will be required - helpful if you haven't chosen the bike yet as the EPD are very strict when granting noise and emissions exemptions.
