I don't have children (yet) but I'd wouldn't be fearful of their safety in HK - I've never heard of any child kidnappings in HK. I'd be more concerned about their safety due to air pollution, to be honest.

Yes this is what I believe to.. But as you would expect my x is concerned. I was hoping for a government document or some stats to help my case. My girls and I were there two weeks ago and It felt safer than at home here in Australia and way cleaner. beside the air.ha ha

Perception and reality are usually different things.
According to govt. stats. in 2000 there were 4 kidnapping/child stealing cases in Hong Kong. This is in a population of 6+ million.
According to govt. stats. in 2000 there were 3.7 kidnapping cases per 100,000 in Australia. The rate for those aged 0-19 was approximately 8 per 100,000.
By anyone's calculations, kidnapping is a far rarer event in Hong Kong than Australia.
Kidnapping by paedophiles is pretty much unheard of in Hong Kong. I have lived in HK for some twenty years and the only kidnappings I recall concerned families and their money matters/business disputes.
Your children are less safe in surburban Australia than in Hong Kong. But as I said it's all perception against reality. You probably feel safer at "home" (perception) than is actually true (reality).

Agree with the above. My 17 year old daughter pretty much has the run of HK and I have no qualms about her getting a taxi in the early hours, although I still prefer that she's with someone else. My 12 year old has now started using public transport on his own, something I wouldn't do in the UK.
