For shipping to Aust I had to get a licence to ship before I put the car on it's way, the UK may also require a licence. You should get this info on the internet. Costs we had to consider were:

Commodity : 1 unit of used private car


Ocean freight : US$850/20’ container

BAF (Bunker surcharge) : US$125/20’ container

PSS (peak season surcharge) : US$300/20’ container

THC (terminal handling charge) : HK$2065/20’ container

Bills of lading fee : HK$120/shipment

Haulage : HK$1300/20’ container

Lashing + stuffing : HK$1500/car/container

Lashing + stuffing location : at Yuen Long, N.T.


The cost of the above varied slightly from company to company. If you can put the car on a 'car ship' which calls into HK on a regular schedule you will save the cost of the container. Good luck with it.

Plus when you get to the UK you need to have the car serviced to make it roadworthy (changing speedometer etc etc). This means spending a minimum of 1.5k GBP. Unless you have a really nice car, it aint worth it.
