Fun activities for Awake Time

ORIGINAL POST
Posted by mayafox 20 yrs ago
My 3-week-old is starting to stay awake for up to an hour after feeds and I'd like to use this time to have some fun together. Any suggestions for activities we can do together? So far, we have been doing baby massage, looking at mommy's face and dancing in mommy's arms to The Beatles... Thanks!

at 3 weeks i think baby massages, looking at your face and dancing is pretty good. everything is new to them so you don't actually need to plan structured games or anything.

i sang songs, read little books, toured around the house, went for short walks, etc. i think the idea is just to let baby hear your voice and be exposed to various visuals, etc....

Hi Mayafox -

I actually posted on this a while back on another thread - looked the thread up for you. There was a really good discussion of all the things that you could do with your baby - here is the link.

My mum sang ABBA songs to me as a babe. My favourite song when I could finally speak was 'Dancing Queen', lol!

Mayafox - sounds like you are doing a lot already with your little boy.

Thanks for your ideas everyone! It's good to know that we are at least on the right track with how we are spending our awake time. Our bubs LOVES music, so we have been giving our CD collection a good workout today.

HKCC that is a great thread -- lots of good things to do and insight into how people are planning their days -- thank you! We are also working with the Gina Ford schedule and it's going very well so far -- 3 hour feeds, regular as clockwork! Totally lulling me into a false sense of security...

Walking - put the baby in a sling/carrier and go for long walks, you can chat as you go. Gets you out of the house, good for exercise, and good for the baby to see new stuff.

yes, walking - helps mummy to have a good workout too! i walk almost everywhere with baby...and as he grows older (obviously not at 3 weeks), you can prop him up abit on the pram and he will really enjoy looking at everything. my bub hated (and still hates) being flat on his back in the pram when we took him out but vast improvements seen when we could prop him up and he could catch all the action (light! people! cars!)

I love to walk, so that is a great idea. I'm trying to get over the fact that we live at the top of a great big hill and that going downhill inevitably means going back up in the August heat! I guess I culd drive to some less demanding walks, but that does take a little more effort and planning.

Just to get an idea -- what do you dress your babies in when you go for walks when it is this hot? Short sleeves? Long sleeves? Do you bring a light blanket if you plan on strolling through a mall?

hi guyz, u all are new moms and i m already a mom of two, so i know that all moms have the same problem facing. what i used to do is give them good massage in their free time with different types of baby oil or gel, also give them different exercises, that I learnt at Kindyroo which is a centre in Central who have age groups from 8 weeks babies, where they teach how to be comfortable with your new born, massage and different types of exercise, co-ordinations etc. I was happy and delighted and till date my daughter still goes to Kindyroo. Try a free trial lesson that they offer. Visit www.kindyroo.com.hk
