You could either do the brushing first for him infront of a mirror then let him have a go himself after or do what I do with my 3 year old is let her first brush them then I will go over them properly after and explain to her Im making sure all the lttle plaque bugs are out. Children dont know how to brush their teeth properly and throughly by them selves till they are about 12 years old or so, depends on the child too. An adult should always go over them to make sure the plaque is properly removed after they have brushed.

Having said all that I am assuming you would have already started brushing his teeth when the very first ones would have come through around the age of 6 months

We brush "Bear"s teeth and then our 2 yr olds making it a game. Or let him try and brush our teeth whilst we brush his. Routine brushing helps they know to expect it, morning and night.

My boy was really keen on the electric toothbrush. He has a regular toothbrush which I give him and he will put it in his mouth (he is only 14 months and too young to properly brush) and will try his best moving it around. Then I will switch on the electric toothbrush and he will open his mouth very wide to have me doing it.

Maybe you could try this. I only discovered by chance since he always got very excited when he saw me brushing my teeth even when he was only a few months old.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I just start him with a normal tooth brush and tooth paste in strawberry taste, and guess what, he just love the taste and swallow it all. Now, he will open his mouth, just because he want to eat the tooth paste but not brushing his teeth. I guess I will have a long way to go.
