Long story...But any advice would be appreciated.
We have been living in HK for 1.5 years coming from UK.
Main reason: spend sometime with my wife's Dad since my mother in law passed away two years ago.
We have two kids - 4.5 and 7 years old both at reputable international school (with Secondary school provision), after 1.5 years we are considering the future of our children - in terms of education and personal development.
Reason going back to UK :
1) We want our child to go back to their previous private school in the UK where their record into "selective" secondary school is over 90% pass rate.
2) More space - our house in England is much bigger they can have a bedroom each with own desk for studying/playing - currently we live in a 800sq feet flat with 6 of us living in tight space (helper and her dad).
3) plenty of (green) parks.
4) can afford two cars freedom to travel about - currently we use MTR can't afford cars and too expensive to travel.
5) Elder son always talking about going back (snow, more living space, good friends at UK primary school)
6) Universities are more well regarded and education in general are better.
7) Living cost is generally cheaper than Hong Kong (we live in Birmingham)
8) Generally more peace and quite
Reason for staying in HK:
1) My wife's family is in HK
2) There are so much outside activities to do within "close" proximity (hillside, seaside, shopping) all within 30 minutes - 1 hour travelleing.
3) So much activities for the children to play and learn.
4) More friends in general for my wife and kids.
5) Can learn more Mandarin.
These are some of the main reasons why we want to stay in HK or UK . I think we would definitely go back for our kids to attend university in UK but the questions is when - now or in 10 years time? Having space is a real big thing for the kids as they grow older - as we are not expats we can't afford to live in 2500 sq feet flats in HK. But on the other hand there are other factors so good in HK too.
So any advice and suggestion would be appreciated.
Thanks

We currently live in TKO, yes I have heard generally that it is cheaper to live further outskirts like Sai Kung (the price you suggested would be very reasonable) but like you say, I may have to buy two cars one for me and one for my wife, I work in HK island and my children studies towards Jardine's lookout (no, I can't afford flats in that area)
On the other hand the father in law likes to go to "yum char" every morning so it has to be near a restaurant within walking distance (or easy transportation system)
Just how inconvenient is Sai Kung?

Sai Kung is convenient for restaurants, with over 90 within a 500 mtre radiius - is that enough convenience?. There is also a large elderly population out here who hang out in the square and other open spaces.
To get to the island you need to have about an hours travelling from Sai kung Town - or add 20 minutes to your curtrent travel time from TKO on public transport.
There are school buses for the children or they too can catch the public transport.
Up to you - you need to see what your needs are.
Why can't you go back to UK and take her father with you?

HK is a much more SAFER place to live than in the UK. I know it get hot and humid here but I think it beats the dismal weather the UK has in Winter.
