Why ban books?

In light of the terror alert I can understand why airlines would ban ipods, laptops etc...but BOOKS??

Don't know. But I guess ones with titles like "How To Make A Bomb In 10 Easy Steps" might be suspect

Just more items to have to check at the security check point I guess. Also, they would really need to check through the book to make sure that nothing was slotted between the pages.

Yes, that's true. And maybe pages could be impregnated with noxious substances? But according to the BBC website today, while restrictions still apply the 'blanket' carry-on baggage ban is no longer in force.
