1) The employer does not need to give you a copy. You can get it from the hospital. You will have to pay some charges.


2) Unless your employment contract states otherwise, you cannot force former employers to give a reference letter.

If you are in Shanghai and the clinic is in Beijing then I think you are up against it trying to get a copy from afar. Even if you do find the phone number you are unlikely (in my view) to get much satisfaction dealing with them over the phone. Even if you do speak fluent Putonghua how do they know they are actually dealing with who you say you are? Good luck anyway.
