Hi,
I have medium curly hair that is quite annoying. I would like to get some advice regarding straightening my hair.I do not want to use heating techniques/harsh chemical treatments as they can damage the hair. Ideally I would like home treatments - straightening gels etc. Please let me know if you have experience using the gels and your recommended products. Also any recommended salons that you think I could visit.
Thanks.

hkrcac.....the new straightening products available to us now are so much better than they used to be. If you have your hair straightened using the Japanese inspired Ion treatment your hair will still be in great condition, providing you choose a good salon or stylist to do it.
Home use products are never as good as what a salon will use. The stuff you might buy to use at home has a much higher PH level than those used in salons which will casue the damage and dryness you want to avoid. There are so many salons in HK so its a tough one to recamend. I think you should try to find one that suites your style and budget then go in for a consultation only to make sure you are comfortable with the stylist.

I now get my hair straightened (had it done about 4 times) and have NEVER regretted the decision - got the Japanese permanent straighting and my hair feels in better condition than ever. I used to use ceramic straighters, gels etc all the time and I figure I probably did more damage to my hair by constantly trying to do something about it myself. Now with it permanently straightened I can just blow it dry or even just let it dry on its own and it feels better than ever.
I first went to one of the more expensive salons but it drained my budget then when I needed it done again - about 7-8 months later, I decided to risk a cheaper one and the result was just as good. I reckon the salons here are so used to doing it that they are all quite experienced.
No regrets at all - and no more humidity frizz - yay!!!!!!

DL, you sound an expert, right? I have had X-tenso straightening for the past 2 years, 4 times a year, and results are great, not even need to blow them dry or anything, and price is very low. Just a question tho, how long do you expect I can continue using this?

One extra comment - when I now get my hair straightened I only get the new growth done - that probably helps the condition as it means all my hair is not being treated multiple times. My hair is not super wavy so I can let it grow about 3-4 inches before I'm climbing the wall! Getting only the roots done each time is a little bit cheaper as well.

hkfrenchie,
i was wondering if you got your xtenso done in HK? I've been considering trying it out as I've grown my straightened hair out and over the counter products arent helping my frizz!
thanks
