Chicken pox vaccine for 7.5mth old baby

My baby is nearly 7.5 mths and I am planning to get him injected today or tomorrow with the chickenpox vaccine (paediatrician's advice) as my husband has just been diagnosed with chicken pox this morning. Is it safe for a 7.5mth old to get the vaccine so early as I know it is normally for kids 12mths and above. I do trust my doctor but just want some other feedback as timing is quite crucial right now.

Both Varivax III and Varilrix are not approved or recommended for infants under 12 months. It is not usually effective as any chickenpox antibodies received during the pregnancy will interfere with the vaccine.

Chickenpox can be a problem for infants with a compromised immune system. If he's a healthly little lad, if he does catch it, it could only be a mild case. You are probably right not to go with the vaccine.

I don't know what stage your husband is it but the infectious period lasts from about three days before the rash appears until all the blisters have formed scabs. So dad can come out of quarantine when he's all scabby (lovely!).

The incubation period between being infected with chickenpox until the disease breaks out and symptoms appear is 10 to 20 days. So you'll have to keep an eye on your bubs for nearly three weeks after scabby dad emerges.
