you sound like a perfect customer for www.dell.com
anything else will just be too much hassle, unless you buy an Apple...

i had a dell and it crashed and burned. that is why i need a new computer. it was a disaster to say the very least. they also told me over and over that they would not support their product here in hong kong...

make the switch then, buy an apple.
you can even install windows on them now for the best of both worlds ...

bad part is - if you have a desktop, and something goes wrong with it - you have to drag it down there - not much fun.

Get the guys to build you one in Wanchai computer centre. You'll get a lot more for your money. All branded computers suck

Thank you all for your advice! just ordered a custom computer from Windsor House Computer Center... place called Vertex. Seems like a MUCH better deal. After 2 Sony Vaio and a Dell explosion, I feel much better about this deal. I am a designer so need very good graphics, memory, etc. Thank you all again! I will post again if this does not work for me. Thank you!

Actually, as an architect, I have used a PC. Thank you for your help!

Kooni - I've heard many stories about Dell PCs and laptops. I have a DELL now from work and I back-up religiously.
I need a personal laptop and ANYONE can give me advise on MACs?

Because the new Macs have Intel chips, they will run Windows without the need for Virtual PC. So if that's what has been stopping you from switching, it isn't as much of an issue any more (you still need to reboot though I think).

i understand some software is still dodgy to run on a mac masquearading as a PC. plus you can't right-click ;)
Don't believe the hype. Macs are cool, but expensive, no better for graphics than a PC and prob harder to get fixed here in HK. My gf had to wait 2 weeks for a charger replacement!!
