Im looking for a good book to use as a guide for starting solids.

Ive heard mixed reviews for 'Super Baby Food' and 'The Healthy Baby Meal Planner'

Any thoughts?

in my opinion, there is no one perfect book, adapt accordingly to suit you and bub.

i bought and use:

gina ford's contented little baby book on weaning - moves quite fast onto multiple meals, promotes home cooking but seem more interested in ensuring baby is fed well enough to avoid night wakings (just my opinion)

super baby foods: more conservative when it comes to introducing new foods, multiple meals, more about ensuring baby is fed very natural fod (homemade porridge, etc) very lengthy but lots of useful info, especially detailed info about fruits/vegs - how to store, how to ripen, suitable for what age, etc. it is long-winded BUT i think it's a useful book to have, sort of like an encyclopedia on solids.

feeding your baby and toddler by annabel karmel: just bought this a few days ago, lots of visuals, yummy looking recipes but info on kitchen needs/allergies/health benefits of foods, etc not as extensive as ruth yaron. more a recipe book than a complete guide on weaning.

we only started last week (bub is 5 months) so still learning.

have fun and good luck!

You might be interested in knowing that I am teaching a course on healthy cooking for infants at the YWCA (English members department) in November. It covers topics such as when to start solids, how to and what to make.

I am a mother of two and a passionate cook and believe that good dietary habits start from when solids are started.

Have a look at this website or if you have any questions you can send me a PM.

We like Super Baby Foods but will warn you that she babbles babbles and babbles on sometimes!

You can get a lot of information from the book, but as with anything, take what you like.

Also check out websites like http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com/ and other parenting sites and you will actually find all the information you need!

I can't believe nobody has mentioned (unless I missed it) "Australian Baby & Toddler Meals" by Robin Barker. It sections out ages from 4 mths (if you start that early with solids) up to 'Toddlers & Beyond'. Very easy to follow, easy to read, great recipes that even we cook as a family and we all eat (incl. us parents)! Robin Barker is also the author of 'Baby Love' and 'The Mighty Toddler' if you thought you might have heard her name mentioned. You can buy online (probably Dymocks or something like that - check it out anyway, well worth it). We bought it when my son was about 9 mths old and he's now 4 yrs old and I have since had another baby (now 18 mths old). It's fun.
