We have an Australian passport and a Chinese passport (Hong Kong SAR) do we need a visa for any of these to enter Vietnam? and if so where is it issued, HK or in Vietnam immigration?
Any suggestions related to this area would be welcomed

Australian passport holders definitely require a visa for entry to Vietnam. Have a look at this site www.learn4good.com/visa.htm and then locate the Vietnam flag and follow the links. From a quick check, it appears that Chinese nationals require a visa also. Good luck

Yes to both. Best to get it from the VN consulate, although any decent TA should also be able to organise it for you. Can also be obtained on arrival, although I think that might be only for business travel when you have a letter from the local comnpany you are dealing with.
