My mom wants me to get a death certificate for her maternal grandfather who passed away in Hong Kong in the 1960s. I have his name, the address where he was residing at the time of death (not 100% sure). And we only know that he died either in 1960 or 1961. Does anyone know where I should start to get my hands on the death certificate?
Thanks!

First make a "Application for Search of Record of Death" with the Immigration Dept. Cost $140 for a particular search (search for any 5 year period), or $680 for a general one.

Then you can make a "Application for Death Certificate", also with the Immigration Dept. Cost is $140 if you are in HK and $275 if overseas (plus airmail postage).

Jinaling, So weird, I applied for one last week!! Go to the third floor of the Queensway Government Office, in between Pacific Place and High Court. You'll have to apply for a search first which will cost $140 and after that you'll have to wait about 3-4 weeks. If they find the death certificate, you'll have to pay for a copy of it. It helps to have as much info as possible. But I was successful with just the full-name, rough year of death. Good luck!

Thanks Imma Star, that's about all I have as well, the name and the rough year.
