Hi all, I'm deciding on what type of bath seat/ support I should get for LO. Some threads mentioned about the Tigex bath seat. Checked it out in Mothercare, personally it doesn't look too comfortable for baby to fit in coz it's made out of hard plastic, and baby will grow out of it quickly. Is this the case? Can anyone share your experience?
Any alternative to Tigex bath seat out there? I did see some made out of net. Are they safe?

I used the tigex with both of my girls and have given it as gifts to multiple friends back in the US (they didn't have anything like it back then.) ALL were hits and successes.
My older daughter used it until 10 months (they sort of stop growing as quickly once the reach the upper levels) and she was happy to lie down and gurgle in the bath in it.
My younger still reclines in it and LOVES it. (6 months old) I'm not sure if they find the hard plastic uncomfortable. I've only had my girls smile and gurgle in it. If you want, I can send you a link to a video clip of my girls in it - or even a picture so you can see how it actually works in real life.

Oh that would be great HKCC. So nice of you! Would love to visualize how it works on real babies :)

I had the same concern as Nicher about the Tigex bath seat, so I would love to see how it works with a real baby too!
At the moment, I am using a foam mat to support baby in my arms whilst bathing him in a baby bath on the dining room table. This works ok for us so far (the soft foam is a nice barrier between baby's skin and the plastic bath and stops him slipping around in my arms)but I am not so delighted with it that I wouldn't consider trying something else. How do other people bathe their newborns?

Mayafox, are you using the foam mat sold in Mothercare?

We have been using the formed bath support too (not sure if it is by tigex but got from mothercare). When bub was newborn it really gave me confidence that she couldn't slip down in the water. Once she got bigger I didn't think I needed the bath support but she was so heavy that my arm really ached! We have just stopped using it (baby is 6 months old now). There are a couple for sale on the trading post (our included) which will save you a fortune as they are very overpriced for a piece of shaped plastic!

My MIL sent me the foam mat from the UK -- not sure if it is the same as the one from Mothercare. Basically, it is a piece of foam that has the shape of a baby cut out of it so the baby can lie in the indent. Sorry my description is rubbish -- let me know if that makes no sense to anyone.

Mayafox and Nicher -
i'm pming each of you - hopefully the pics/video will help. I've been really happy with mine - and am still using it for my second one.

Mayafox - I like your description!! But that's exactly what I saw in Mothercare. It's just as simple as that!
HKCC thanks so much for the video link. Will check it when I get home tonight :)

HKCC -- thanks so much for the clip and the pictures. Your daughter is adorable!
It actually makes a big difference seeing how a baby reclines in the seat -- the Tigex looks a lot more secure and comfortable than I had imagined.
One big advantage of this over my foam mat is that you have both hands free. I have not been very happy with having to clean with one hand whilst supporting baby with the other.
You have convinced me. Will go pick one up this weekend!

Glad to be of help. The only reason I decided that I wanted one initially was because I saw my friend using one with her baby - and it made bathtime look SO NOT stressful, and I could have both hands free and stuff - so it was great.
The only tricky bit is under the butt and stuff - but that little bit I just pick her up and wash her and lay her back down for the rinse. I love it because I just stick it in my big tub and don't need another tub cluttering up an already small apartment. Out of all the things I have bought to prepare for my baby - I felt that the tigex bath seat was in my top two items of best purchases.

What was the second item in your top 2 list? :-)

ah....
baby bjorn.
#3 Maclaren Quest Stroller
With my second, I haven't gone out as much as I did with my first so baby bjorn has fallen on my list. Especially with my second I notice how much I appreciate the bath seat more than anything else I bought for the baby. I could live with a lot of the frills and extras with my second (just too tired and too frazzled to care I guess) but not the bath seat! Thanks for thinking my girl is adorable - she STILL has no hair - so people keep asking me if she's a boy! (even though I dress her up in pink and frills and ruffles - with pink blankies...)

Hi HKCC - I just checked out the video clip! Have to agree that your daughter is absolutely adorable :) Wish I could have a girl for #2 too!
By the way, one of the clips shows your little girl bathing in a bath support made of net or soft fiber. That's the one I'm referring to. I suppose that is no better than the Tigex as it doesn't allow you hands-free.
Baby Bjorn: that's something I'm planning to get too. I prob will get the Air.

Hi HKChoichoi
Can I see the picture of how you bath your BB too? I'm having alot of problem bathing my BB as he is so small and wriggles alot... I once bath him in front of a nurse and he slipped in the water for a split second...scared me half to death!! I never dare to bath him ever since (my mum does it for me)

Hi Nicher -
the net bath thing you saw - not mine. Must be someone else's clip up on the website. I've only used the tigex, which as you point out - is totally hands free and great in that respect
Akky - sent you PM. Here is the website with my daughter in the bath seat. Minimovie clip.

I got the Baby Bjorn Air. Can't wait until we can use it when Bubs' neck is a little stronger.
HKCC -- funny you should say that your daughter is often mistaken for a boy -- my husband, who doesn't seem to be able to pick out his own child in a line-up, says that she looks like our son! So if she does look like a boy then she is a very pretty one... :-)

Hi Mayafox - Usually until which month would bub's neck start to become strong enough for the Baby Bjorn?
Please support our advertisers:
Technically, if your baby is over 8lbs you can use the Baby Bjorn with baby facing you. However, when I tried my boy in my Air the other day, his head seemed to roll precariously from side to side, so I will probably give it another couple of weeks until bubs' neck is a little stronger. He is only 6 weeks old and can't lift his head by himself yet.

thanks hkchoi hkchoi for the clip...but I think my BB is too small for this bathseat and weight just 6ib now (born premature)
Please support our advertisers:
My daughter was born premature also.
she started into the seat at under 6 lbs. It's suitable from birth onwards - I just don't have a picture of my baby when she was smaller.

Just want to say that I bought the Tigex bathseat yesterday and it is fantastic! Bubs was safe and happy and I finally had both hands free to clean all those fat creases properly.
I also liked it that there were suction pads on the bottom so it doesn't slip and the line on the side that tells you how much water to put in the bath. MUCh prefer this to my foam mat. Thanks for the recommentation, HKCC!

Oh I can't wait to try that when my baby's born! Mayafox do you place the bath seat in a baby's bath tub or you now bathe bub in your bath tub?
Please support our advertisers:
Mayafox - glad you liked it! Didn't want to lead you astray. heheh. I forgot to mention the suction part.
Nicher - My friend used it in a smaller tub instead of the big bath, but I like using it in the big bath (space reasons, no smaller tub) - and then I turn on the shower and rinse my daughter love. (which she LOVES.) Another poster, dimac, mentioned that it's good to get kids used to getting water in their faces while bathing, so when they get ready to swim, they aren't scared of that sensation. Now that my daughter is older I also splash her with the shower, and she doesnt' mind it at all. My older one HATES it (didnt' do this with her and regret it.)

Your daughter obviously enjoys it! When I showed your video clip to hubby, he immediately said we must get one for our baby - which I just did over lunch time today :)

Nicher, I have used the bathseat in both the big tub and the baby bath. It works well in both! Personally, I prefer using the baby bath on top of the dining room table for now (much easier on my already aching back!), but if I didn't have a bath already, I probably wouldn't bother buying one just to use with the bathseat.
Please support our advertisers:
Thanks Mayafox. The reason why I asked is because I also already bought a baby bath tub... Aanyway, I think it won't be a waste as I can't imagine kneeling down to bathe the bub every day as I easily get backache too. I prob will bring the bath tub onto a table like what you do.
