I have a tourist visa, still valid, but I've been in and out of China. Could I use it to get back in again? Or would I need to get another? It's an L category. Ta.

I'm not clear on the 'L' meaning (just like I don't know the meaning of 'F' & 'Z' and any others) but the visa should also say whether it's a single- or multiple-entry. If (a) it's in Chinese, and (b) you don't read Chinese, then someone nearby should be able to help you with that.

L visa is a tourist visa;usually the validity of a L visa is 30 or 60 day after each entry.L visa can be 0 entry, 1 entry, 2 entry or multiple entry.

F visa is a business visa;it can be valid for 30-180 days after each entry with 1, 2 or multiple entry

Z visa is a work visa.It is a little bit complicated to get one.

...so it comes back to whether it's a single-, double- or multiple-entry visa and that should be shown somewhere on the visa sticker itself. In fact I just had a bright idea and extracted my own passport. I have had several L visas (they are one of the reasons why I have to get new passports so often because they take up an entire page) and the number of entries is there quite clearly - in ENGLISH as well as in Chinese.
