What to bring to HK? TV? Computer?

We are seasoned American Expats moving to Hong Kong from the USA. This will be our first time in Hong Kong. I am questioning if things like TVs or computers are less expensive in Hong Kong or in USA? Should I bring with me or buy new there? (I understand that US TVs will only work as a monitor if they are not multisystem. I will use one for the kids video games, etc.) THANKS!

Forget the TV for sure as it wont work. I brought my computer - and had to get the monitor hooked up to a 110v converter. If its around time to upgrade, I would say - get a backup of your stuff and get a new comp. or laptop here.

Dont get anything that has high wattage and wont run on 220v. Its a pain having transformers and converters all over the house. Ask me - I have experience :)

I brought my computer and all related accesories - the monitor and printer alone can run only on 110v. So, I use a converter for that.

I also brought my receiver - for that I use a more heavy duty converter. But all these do tend to add to the wires. TVs, DVDs, appliances etc - I would think very hard before shipping them over.

It's best not to bring too many appliances. There's not really much of a difference in prices. But if you are not paying for your relocation and your old tv works with the video game system, etc., no big deal to bring it with you. We did, for our American dvd's and for the video game system. Also brought our computer with us. We have two converters (one for each) and it's really not an issue at all. We also brought the George Foreman, so if you have one of those, bring it! Have yet to see any as big here. ;)
