My hubby just parted from a high stress job with 6 months severance & non-compete clause. Think we will go to some remote, totally relaxing, not expensive beach somewhere in SE Asia for a few weeks. Want air con, but otherwise, no frills necessary. Any reccomendations?

A room for less than $400HK/night on the beach? Sound right?

I recently went to Myanmar, on the west coast, an area called Nagpali Beach, it is a short flight from Yangon.

But it is very restful, the hotel was called Sandoways and was beautifully done in decorated in native teak wood. The beaches were wonderful white sand and are virtually empty, there were no hawkers trying to get you take any service or buy anything.

All in all very restful. It was booked for me by Concorde travel, but you may be able to go direct to hotel.

Yes, why not try Boracay, Philippines?

I came to Chiang Mai, Thailand for similar reasons and found apartments with separate bedroom for not much more than hotel type rooms where you have to sleep in the same area you watch TV or eat. My suggestion would be to go somewhere, stay in a basic hotel / guesthouse and look for a furnished apartment. You will save heaps!
