Hi, I have tattoos, I have a sun on my stomach which I had done 7 years ago as my eldests name is Hebrew for child of the sun and then a month ago I had 3 butterflies in the middle of my back. In ascending size to mark each of my 3 daughters. I love them.

I have a frog on my inner right ankle and a Japanese character meaning "adopted" on my back.
They are average size, although I do think my character is a little too big at times.
There is a great tatooist in LKF and if you want to know more, send me a PM.

hi raincatcher, i don't have tattoos but here's a good tip: i have a friend who tried a bunch of temporary henna tattoos - different designs, shapes and locations on her body - before choosing and committing to one permanently. that way she got exactly what she wanted, where she wanted it. am sure you could find a place in HK to do it. :-)

Depends on the spot. My ankle was about a 4, my back, bits of it were about a 6 or 7.

:-) raincatcher, let us all know what you eventually decide upon. any particular symbols or meanings you want to convey with your tattoo?
i'm just too chicken to get a permanent tattoo, so hats off to those who have done it.

The one on my stomach did not hurt at all the ones on my back probably a 7. Outline was fine it was the shading that hurt!!

I'm thinking of getting a tattoo as well! Am looking for a nice butterfly design for my lower back.. about small to average in size! I think the henna idea is a good one, does anybody know where there is a good henna tattoo artist??

hey :)
i have one on my upper arm, about 6x3 inches .. i designed it myself which was fun. i've had it 6 years n still love it.
be very careful what design you go for.. you have to imagine yourself 10 or 20 years older still liking it ok.. i have a couple of friends who have had tatoos removed through lazer treatment, this hurts n leaves a scar.. so make sure you choose your image carefully.
pain wise .. yes it hurts, the more boney the area, the more pain.. flesh is better.. i must admit however that i got quite a kick off my adrenylin rush !! made the pain rather pleasurable la !

About 8 years ago(long before I was thinking of moving to China), I had the chinese symbol for woman put on the base of my spine. I was very relieved when I arrived here and my chinese friends reassured me that the characters were correct. That could have been ugly!!
It didn't hurt much probably about a 3-4 on the pain scale.
I love it as it is hidden away and not too obvious.

I designed a flower row print for the top of myright foot, it hurt a lot maybe a 9 but I love it and I've hand it for about 6 years.I had it done in Canada. I have to say when some people in HK see it they are surprised and there are a lot of old fashion people that think you must be wild if you have a tatoo.

I have a tattoo on the back of my right shoulder. It is a black butterfly. I am white and I wanted something that would stand out! Pain of tattoos generally depends on the location. For me, I had just a bit of stinging in the beginning, but after that no pain. My tattoo was very symbolic for me. I think that if you are thoughtful about what you want to get, why and where, you won't regret it!

I've got 3 - one on my hip (boney - hurt a bit!), one on my breast (didn't hurt so much) and one on my ankle (very boney, so it hurt a bit). I don't think I'd want one on my neck as it would be almost always on show and could look incongruous at times. Also, it wouldn't look so hot in years to come, being permanently on display with the skin starting to get crepey.

Interesting to read all these responses. I have my full back and one full arm tattooed. I am now working on something on my right lower leg. I have invited many international tattoo artists to HK over the last 8 years or so and have worked with some really great artists.
Unfortunately in HK there are really only one or two decent artists and only 2 that i know of have the propper sterilization equipment. I still invite interenational artist to HK a few times a year.
I had a tattoo done by Joe several years ago as did several of my clients, many of them had to be redone by other artists including mine so unless she has drasticaly improved i would be carefull.
I do a bit of work with Sze (a local female tattoo artist) who has a studio in Central. I like her work and the fact that she is a good freehand artist.
There is another new studio i have heard about in TST but i havent checked it out yet. I plan to go over and have a look in the next couple of weeks.
I would be happy to advise and answer any questions on tattooing if you want to send me a pm.

Elvira, yes for sure she would. I have seen some in her folio. The good thing about Sze is that she can custom design it for you so you can make changes to make sure you get the right shape you want. Check her website www.szectattoo.cjb.net

Anyone got a temp tattoo done? Too chicken to try a perm one. Wanna try a design before actually committing to it. Where in HK can you get a temp one and how long does it last?

RA, you can also go to Sze. She does temp tattoos and temp tattoo courses. They can usually last up to 10 days i believe depending on what type you get.

I've a couple of friends go to some of D-Mans invited tattoo artists - they were from Thailand and both their tattoos were great. The Hairdressers guy right? Anyway I had a tattoo in Philippines about 8 years ago and it was fantastic a 2" x 2" butterfly on my right shoulder blade. Very beautiful artwork. As I spend a lot of time in the sun I had it touched up and added a couple of swirls to it last year here in Thailand. The pain is bearable and you just tune it out after a while. Ricky in Wanchai and well known unfortunately I know no one who has had a good tattoo from him in the last 8 years so beware. Goodluck - they are addictive - i am currently trying to decide what else to have an where.

If you want a good one done by an artist who knows her stuff, go see Joanne at Bluetongue Designs in LKF. http://www.bluetonguedesigns.com/
Not only does she do AMAZING work, she does great individual desgins if you want. She is trustworthy, very honest and reputable and ethical. She did my most recent one and I am thinking of getting another one from her in the New Year. Yes, she may be expensive, but it is worth it for the service and quality of the work she does. You will not be disappointed.
