insane, not just any doctor. ask him to see an ENT specialist ( Ear, nose and throat ) because it's under their field. snoring can be serious if there is an underlying medical problem. does he stop breathing temporarily when he was snoring, even just for a few second?

There are lots of cases of sudden death because of stop breathing during snoring. It is something

your bf need to face it. Nothing ashamed cause lots of people need to wear a breathing system to sleep because of this. Some people stop breathing over 1 min and they don't know it. I know there have some specialist related to dentist who made a special mouth pcs. that you need to wear it during sleep it keeps your lower jaw move forward so that the breathing channel widen up to stop snoring and maintain a normal breathing condition.

Insane,

Hi. Just wanted to share something about snoring. If There is like a stop in breathing during sleep even if it is just for a second, can't ignore it because it might/can be serious. You can also ask a doctor specializing in sleep pattern disorders or a cardiologist. You can also consult a dentist for that. They have this appliances that is placed inside the mouth during sleep to open the airway better. When a person sleeps on his back even if the pillow is high, the tongue goes down as well as the pharynx. Apparently the pharynx vibrates during breathing thereby creating a sound, which is the "snore." You can also suggest to your boyfriend to sleep on his side. It can also help. Though it doesn't stop the snoring but it can lessen the sound/loudness. Some anti-snoring strips, pill or spray doesn't work and i don't mean they are not effective. It mainly depends on what causes the condition. It is better to have professional consultation. I hope that your boyfriend would understand that what you're asking him to do is for his own health and that he would understand how you care for him.

I hope my views could help.

I never heard or read of snoring as a cause in sudden cessation of breathing during sleep. But I have read of a survey that the facial structure or countour of a person is related to snoring: Men who have more prominent nasal structure and upper jaws tend to snore more than men with more prominent lower jaws and less prominent nasal structures. Men with more prominent nasal and upper jaws also tend to sleep with their mouth open or partly open, thus, when exhaling, they tend to exhale through their mouth rather than through their nose. That's why the soft palates, vocal chords, ovulas, and other other throat structures vibrate during sleep. That's why one of the practical ways to stop snoring during sleep is to simply tell the person to lie on his side. Putting a pillow on his back for support may help.
