Hi all!
Today is my first day back at work. My mom fed bubbs from a bottle at 11am but he only took 1 oz, even after four hours!!! He has taken the bottle before in the night, but has become even more knowing than he used to be before (just about 3 months next week), so does this have anything to do with it? How do other moms cope? He's not unhappy, business as usual, gurgling away and doesn't seem hungry, but I know that won't last for long if he keeps this up!
Help!!

It's only the first day. It's always the hardest on moms when they are away and the first bottle is given to their child without their presence. If your baby is fine for now - he'll eat more later.
Perhaps he just isn't hungry - or perhaps the temperature of his bottle wasn't just right. (I always find my daughter takes it better WARMER than colder) See what happens at the next feed- and try not to worry (but you will) until then. The next feed he may just guzzle it down.
Some pointers to help your mom - have her drape something that you've worn around her (your smell may help relax him.) Feed with no distractions - no TV, no talking on the phone, just as much silence as possible and have her maintain eye contact with your baby while feeding. Cooing of course will be good. It will take a bit of practice for your baby as well - so give it some time. SEe how the next feed goes.

Thanks much HKCC, I'll get mom to try that tomorrow. I'll be at home, but we're going to "practice" this weekend! Poor bubba.
Cheers!

Do not panic yet. Many babies do not take a bottle from an alternative care giver and wait for mom to return. If he is happy and thriving let him set the pace. You may want to try feeding when baby is in a relaxed drowsy state, prior to waking up fully.

i don't bf but i certainly agree with matilda's comments on alternative caregiver - my bub never finishes his bottle when it's someone else feeding him. your bub will need to get used to granny feeding him!
